The First Spell

He looked at the long, thin wand in his hand. It was ancient, as old as the desire for power. As old as the lust for more. Its power flowed into him, through his very veins, and the slim, curly-haired male could not help but tighten his hold around its detailed grip.
He shifted his hold on the artifact, the Hallow that he had sacrificed everything to possess. Balanced between his third and fourth finger, it was held as he drew his former wand from its hiding place in his sleeve. Twelve and three-quarter inches, made of yew, and a core of a dragon's heartstring. A faithful companion, an old friend.
However, as he held it, his mind turned of its own accord.
He saw the blond, wide-eyed young woman he had so often played the piano for. He saw her, standing with a horrified expression as he and her brothers had dueled. He saw curses fly in all directions. He saw one strike her in the chest. Saw her fall.
He saw the blue eyes of Albus Dumbledore. He heard indecipherable whispers from late nights. He saw the shine in those eyes, the desire for something greater than Godric's Hollow. He felt a hand on his, heard a laugh. And he saw those blue eyes.
His thumb rested on the bottom of the wand, near the middle, and his fire and second fingers pressed on the top. The pressure was light at first, but he forced more. A snap filled the air, and Gellert pushed the two sides together with his palm until the wand snapped entirely. The pieces fell from his hand onto the floor of his grandfather's house.
The days of partnership were gone. Because of that wand. It was time for a new course. It was time for action.
The master of the Elder Wand drew it from his sleeve and pointed it at the pieces of his former wand and whispered only one word.
"Incendio."
